This makes tiling easier and gives a sleek, modern look. Square (point) drains sit in the center of the shower and require a four-way slope, which works well with smaller mosaic tiles. Linear drains typically cost more but offer better water flow capacity and a more contemporary aesthetic.
As a general rule, your linear drain should span most of the width of your shower opening. For a 36-inch shower, use a 24- to 30-inch drain. For a 48-inch shower, choose a 36-inch drain. For a 60-inch shower, go with a 48-inch drain. Trugard linear drains come in 24", 30", 36", and 48" lengths. The drain length affects flow rate, so sizing up ensures faster drainage and prevents pooling during heavy use.
Yes, Trugard drains use standard 2-inch no-hub connections that fit any residential plumbing setup. They work with Schluter, Laticrete HydroBan, and other major waterproofing membranes. However, Trugard drains are specifically engineered to integrate seamlessly with Trugard membrane and bonding flanges, giving you the tightest seal and simplest installation when used as a complete system.
Trugard offers three grate styles across all linear drain sizes: Classic (clean parallel lines for a timeless look), S-Style (a curved wave pattern that adds visual interest), and Tile-In (a recessed frame that holds a cut tile insert, making the drain nearly invisible). All grates are made from brushed 304 stainless steel and are removable for easy cleaning. The Tile-In option is the most popular choice for modern bathroom designs.
